Glasgow Airport Guide
Located close to the towns of Renfrew and Paisley and
eight miles west of the City Center the Glasgow International
Airport is the busiest of the three major airports in Scotland.
During the 1980’s the terminal size of the airport
was increased by 72% at a cost of 84.71 million dollars.
The augmented terminal now has room for 8.8 million passengers
yearly and can accommodate over forty tour and airline
operators using its two runways to fly to over ninety destinations.
Further expansion is expected to add approximately sixteen
million passengers.
Glasgow International Airport is situated just off the
main highway of Junction 28 of the M8 highway which is
about eight miles from the center of the city and, depending
on the traffic and the time of day, it takes about twenty
minutes to drive from the Glasgow city center to the Glasgow
Airport.
Because of recent scares related to security measures
drivers may no longer park outside the airport’s
main terminal building. A new parking zone where passengers
may be dropped off is located in the new car park which
faces the main terminal building. For the first ten minutes
there is no charge for parking in this area, however it’s
wise to double check the cost before parking in that area
because times of availability and prices may be changed
without notice.
The Glasgow International Airport has two terminal buildings,
the main terminal and terminal 2 or T2 which was added
in 2004 to take care of the growing number of passengers.
The main terminal covers three floors with the check-in
desks for both international departures and domestic flights
on the ground floor. For the convenience of passengers
who might want to make last minute purchases before departing
there are also a variety of outlet shops and a duty free
shop in the first floor lounge. Passengers can also buy
food and drink at bars and restaurants located through
the airport.
For those arriving at the Glasgow International Airport
the best way to get around is to hire a car and arriving
passengers can choose from four major car rental companies
located in the airport on the ground floor near the UK
baggage claim area. Limousines and chauffeur driven cars
are also available at the airport as well as excellent
bus service which is located in front of the terminal building.
If you are looking for car
